European Commission launches consultation to revise automotive aftermarket rules
The European Commission launched a public consultation on 28 February to update the rules governing vehicle distribution and maintenance, after the renewal of the RECSA regulation in April 2023. Extended for five years, the regulation aims to address technological advancements and new mobility models, such as digitization, data importance, and the rise of electrification and shared mobility. Open until 23 May, 2025, the consultation seeks feedback on the effectiveness, cost efficiency, and relevance of the current framework in promoting competition amidst market changes. For aftermarket professionals, the revision could significantly impact access to technical information and spare parts, with vehicle-generated data being crucial for the competitiveness of independent repairers.
