Nano-coatings set to transform the automotive industry
In its latest report, "Nano-Coatings in the Mechanical Industry," Cetim, the French Technical Center for Mechanical Industries, highlights the potential of nano-coatings in the automotive sector. For example, Hyundai Motor Group's self-healing nano-coating can repair a damaged car body in just two hours, without the need for heating or complex interventions. Nano-coatings also enhance thermal protection, such as reflecting heat from car windows (Hyundai’s StarShield) and improving fire resistance in lithium-ion battery cases (IMDEA Materials). Additionally, nano-composite metallic coatings are expected to replace hard chrome in engines through the European MOZART project.
