Smart e-Fuses for electrical systems in EV
Traditional fuses are evolving into smart e-Fuses, designed for the growing electrification of vehicles. Integrated into the electrical system, e-Fuses act as programmable switches, automatically cutting or reducing current during overcurrent situations, without the need for manual replacement. They also provide diagnostic data to the vehicle’s central computer. While e-Fuse solutions are expensive, mass production could reduce costs, simplify electrical systems, and lower maintenance expenses. For workshops, e-Fuses will streamline diagnostics and repairs, improving speed and efficiency. Manufacturers can also update these components to boost vehicle reliability. The e-Fuse is mostly used in electronics-intensive vehicles today, but it is expected to become more widely adopted in the future.
