Norway Nears Full EV Market Penetration
EVs accounted for 95.9% of new car registrations in Norway in 2025, narrowly missing the 100% zero-emission target. A total of 179,549 new passenger cars were registered, with Tesla leading at 19% market share, followed by Volkswagen at 13%. The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling model, with the top rankings composed entirely of fully electric vehicles. Generous tax incentives, VAT exemptions, and over 3,000 public charging stations fueled adoption. Chinese brands are gaining ground, while diesel vehicles, which are still the largest segment of Norway’s 2.8 million-vehicle fleet, are expected to decline as electrification accelerates.
