CATL’s Sodium-Ion Batteries Could Reshape the Electric Truck Market

CATL has unveiled Naxtra, a new sodium-ion battery technology scheduled for commercial launch in 2026. Designed for both passenger cars and 24V truck applications with integrated Start-Stop systems, the new battery range could challenge lithium-ion dominance. By using abundant sodium instead of lithium, Naxtra aims to reduce resource constraints and production costs. CATL claims an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, a driving range of up to 500 km for passenger cars, 80% charging in 15 minutes, and 90% capacity retention at –40°C.
