Mercedes, Volvo, and MAN push forward with hydrogen-powered truck trials
After several years of in-house testing, Mercedes-Benz has begun a one-year customer trial of its GenH2 fuel cell electric truck with five companies in Germany. The selected companies are Amazon, Air Products, Wiedmann & Winz, Holcim, and Vervaeke (Ineos' logistics subsidiary). Meanwhile, Volvo Trucks is developing trucks powered by hydrogen combustion engines, with plans to begin road trials in 2026 and launch them commercially by the end of the decade. MAN has announced a limited series of 200 trucks with hydrogen combustion engines, set for delivery starting in 2025 to Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland, and select countries outside Europe.
