Chinese Carmakers’ Expanding European Ambitions
Chinese automakers made a record appearance at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, with 116 exhibitors highlighting their growing European ambitions. Brands including BYD, XPeng, Leapmotor, Hongqi, Aion, and Changan unveiled competitively priced electric and hybrid SUVs aimed at the European market. Chinese manufacturers already hold nearly 10% of Europe’s EV sales, though strategies remain fragmented and often target markets with weaker local competition. Analysts predict that only a fraction of the roughly 150 Chinese brands will endure in the long term.
