European Battery Makers Call for EU Support to Compete Globally

Ahead of key EU industrial policy talks, European battery producers ACC, Verkor, and PowerCo are urging Brussels to provide direct financial support to remain competitive against U.S. and Chinese rivals.
With 99% of global battery production currently outside Europe, the European Battery Alliance proposes €1 billion in startup aid, €1.8 billion for early-stage production, and further funding through 2030 to ensure the region reaches 90 GWh of annual output by 2027 and secures strategic autonomy.
