Brussels wants to harmonize truck weight
Brussels plans to harmonize the dimensions of the weights of trucks circulating within the European Union. Directive 96/53/EC sets the maximum weight for trucks in the EU at 40 tonnes and many Member States derogate from this rule on their territory (and are allowed to do so). Thus, ten member countries have authorized the circulation of vehicles of 60 tonnes, while 13 countries limit the calibration of transport vehicles to 44 tonnes.
