EU Deputy Yannick Jadot calls for 2040 deadline
Yannick Jadot (EELV), the European Parliament’s Rapporteur for the regulation of CO2 emission standards for heavy goods vehicles, has been critical of the objectives set by the Commission. In particular, he suggested banning pollutant emissions from trucks by 2040. Brussels wants to reduce carbon emissions by at least 90% from 2040 (compared to 2019 levels) for coaches (over 7.5 tonnes) and trucks (over 5 tonnes). To achieve this ambition, several stages have been set: a reduction of 45% from 2030, then 65% by 2035.
