European Parliament sets aggressive CO2 target for heavy duty

European Parliament and member states have agreed on a stringent target: slashing carbon dioxide emissions by 90% by 2040. This landmark decision mandates heavy-duty vehicle emissions to drop by 45% by 2030, 65% by 2035, and ultimately 90% by 2040 compared to 2019 levels. Commercial vehicle manufacturers are now tasked with transitioning to all-electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles. A review in 2027 will assess the regulation's effectiveness. Over 400,000 battery-electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles must hit the road to meet the 2030 targets, marking a significant shift towards cleaner transportation.
