Electric car price inflation
The rises in the prices of raw materials and energy have added an additional cost of $2,500 to the manufacture of an electric vehicle, widening the gap with combustion vehicles. According to Alix Partners, since 2020 drivers must travel between 30,000 and 70,000 km more to amortize the additional cost of an electric vehicle. The research firm estimated that the purchase of an electric vehicle (with bonuses) could be profitable, depending on where it is bought, from around 96,000 kilometers (average) before the increase. Since then, this point has increased significantly to reach 135,000 km, 39,000 km more than before January 2020. In the case of a plug-in hybrid, the neutral point is only reached from 270,000 km, an additional 70,000 km between 2020 and 2022.
